The first round of the 2025 NFL Draft happened on Thursday night. It is a time when craziness happens. GMs find a way to lose their jobs by making some of the head-scratching decisions.
One of the questionable signings in the offseason was the New York Giants signing veteran quarterback Jameis Winston and then signing another veteran, Russell Wilson. It was so confusing that it left their fan base wondering what their true plan was.
Maybe they signed two veterans because they did not like the rookie quarterback class in the 2025 NFL Draft, which can be understandable. It doesn't take away the fact of signing two veterans, though.
However, the New York Giants made a mistake a few years ago by drafting former Duke signal-caller Daniel Jones with a first-round pick. That selection set them back, and it never panned out (shocker when you draft on potential instead of talent).
On Thursday, the Giants repeated history as they decided to trade up in the 2025 NFL Draft and selected former Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart with the 25th overall pick. Dart is a very talented passer, but why in the world are you having two veterans plus a high-caliber rookie on the roster when all three are capable of being NFL starters in 2025 for the team?
Winston made headlines this offseason by working with FOX as they provided Super Bowl coverage in New Orleans. He will be a great analyst in TV when he hangs up his cleats, but I know that he wants to play for as long as he can.
I hate this for Winston. He had a five-year up-and-down with the Buccaneers, a four-year stint with the Saints, a disaster with the Browns, where they did not play him, and then this. He cannot catch a break, but I know that he will be a great teammate regardless.
