FSU FOOTBALL RECRUITING

Trust me when I say this, I realize that Florida State football only had two victories last season. I know that the fan base and ChopChat have no reason to be talking, but when you can kick the arch-rival Miami Hurricanes when they are down, it is always fun.

I expect Florida State to be much more competitive in 2025, especially against the Hurricanes, which will be trotting out a new quarterback transfer in Carson Beck, who will be bouncing back from an injury late last year. It also helps that the Seminoles play them at home this season (not like the Hurricanes have much of a home-field advantage).

Aside from the season outlook, I am a huge fan of how Florida State football is building its 2025 recruiting class, which is filled with talent, especially at the wide receiver position with four-star prospects Devin Carter, Brandon Bennett, Efrem White, Jasen Lopez, and Darryon Williams.

MIAMI STRIKES OUT AGAIN

One target that the Hurricanes just missed on was five-star wide receiver Calvin Russell from Miami Northwestern High School in Miami, Florida, as the playmaker committed to Syracuse.

Losing someone that talented in your backyard is disappointing for a head football coach in Mario Cristobal, who is known to be an elite recruiter. I know that Miami fans will spin this on social media as they didn't need him anyway. Nonetheless, I want to give credit to Syracuse head football coach Fran Brown for the slam dunk on Cristobal's recruiting ability for Russell.

Nonetheless, the program dropped the ball on his recruitment. Sure... he could come back before the Early Signing Period and end up signing the dotted line with Miami, but as of now, this is a concerning miss for a program that "wants to keep kids at the crib".

Overall, this is another example of why Miami will forever be a program that lives in the past and will never be "back".
