Someone has to catch the football for Florida State during the 2025 season

Florida State needs to locate viable pass catchers.

Florida State football has seen wide receivers such as Jordan Scott, Hykeem Williams, and Jalen Brown enter the transfer portal. The Seminoles are looking for reliable weapons to have in the offense under the guidance of Gus Malzahn.

The offense was not good in 2024, quite possibly the worst in the country. The evaluations of the transfer portal pickups last offseason, with Malik Benson (who transferred to Oregon) and Jalen Benson, were questionable given their production at their previous stops.

The program has the following scholarship wide receivers on its roster for the 2025 season:

Squirrel White, Sr.

Duce Robinson, Jr.

Lawayne McCoy, Soph.

BJ Gibson, Soph.

Micahi Danzy, RS Fr.

Elijah Moore, RS Fr.

Camdon Frier, RS Fr.

Jayvan Boggs, Fr.

Tae'Shaun Gelsey, Fr.

Teriq Mallory, Fr.

This should be a perfect opportunity for the coaching staff to acquire wide receivers via the transfer portal. Florida State already has Duce Robinson and Squirrel White (if they can stay healthy) that the coaching staff is high on.

True freshman Jayvan Boggs has to grow up quickly. I am hesitant to suggest that Boggs will have an 800-yard pass campaign in Year 1 as a youngster. However, the former four-star prospect did record over 4,000 yards in the past two seasons in high school and was awarded the honor of Mr. Florida.

I discussed the Seminoles being interested in Illinois State wide receiver Xavier Loyd in a previous article, but he committed to Missouri.

This has to be a period when the coaching staff tries to monitor other options, such as Miami's Ny Carr. Nonetheless, I hope that other playmakers enter the transfer portal during the spring window that will close on April 25th.

I don't want to suggest that the sky is falling, and I am confident that Coach Malzahn will make the offense work, given his previous coaching experience. This summer will be a time when the offense needs to find its identity. Florida State needs to locate that aspect before Alabama comes to town in late August.
