Slim pickings as Florida State football must flip a 2027 quarterback or pursue someone nobody knows

Can't get much worse...might as well put that money towards an impact position and get someone elite.

Florida State doesn’t have a high school quarterback committed for the 2027 recruiting cycle, and it looks bleak based on what’s available.

Florida has offered 18 quarterbacks in this recruiting cycle, and all of them except Logan Flaherty(recently de-committed from UCF) have commtted elsehwhere. A report from Noles247 suggests that Flaherty may end up elsewhere after most people thought he would end up at Florida State after decommitting from UCF, and Wonderful “Champ” Monds committed to Notre Dame.

However, Florida State watched Logan Flaherty throw recently, which made me think they still had reservations about taking him in the class. If he goes elsewhere, that means Florida State will have to flip one of the 17 others who have committed elsewhere, or find someone unknown they like enough to take in the class.

FSU does have JUCO quarterback Malachi Marshall arriving on campus soon, and redshirt freshman Kevin Sperry, who’ll likely battle for the starting job in 2027 once Ashton Daniels leaves. It’s not like whoever Florida State signs in 2027 will start as a freshman.

The Noles are almost to the point that they would be better off taking that money and putting it towards another impact position where freshmen can make an impact (cornerback, defensive tackle, running back, defensive end).

Why can't Mike Norvell recruit quarterbacks? It's maddening he hasnt' hit on one in six years.

They have several top-tier defensive ends with official visits set over the next few weeks. However, it’s about the only position where that’s the case. They have a few wide receivers who rank decently, planning to take official visits, but that position is too boom or bust to invest like that.

It’ll be interesting to see what the coaching staff decides to do. If they take some unknown guy, the fans will criticize it. If they don’t take a quarterback, they’ll get criticism. I have my doubts they can flip any of the other guys committed elsewhere.

The inability to hit on the quarterback position has cost Florida State the past two years. It doesn’t look like that’s going to change anytime soon.
