Sleeping giant... Is it too early to give up on this former four-star prospect?

I don't think this is a wise idea.

FSU DEFENSE

I realize that Florida State football had a difficult season in 2024, where they had a 2-10 record. However, the Seminoles are looking to bounce back massively. Head football coach Mike Norvell knew that major changes needed to be made to be competitive in the college football landscape.

Norvell was tasked with hiring pivotal assistant coaches that would allow him to work as more of a CEO type in a program that he hopes to get back on top. The offensive and defensive coordinator positions were filled with Gus Malzahn and Tony White.

One of my favorites was former Syracuse and Nebraska defensive coordinator Tony White because he brings a physical brand of football in the multiple 3-3-5 scheme. This isn't to say that I had anything against Adam Fuller because I genuinely cheered for him with the Seminoles.

CONRAD HUSSEY

A variety of Florida State football players have worked out with trainer Karonte this offseason. Defensive back Conrad Hussey has been one of the ones who needs to have a bounce-back year in 2025. The former four-star prospect had fans excited for his sophomore season.

He is in his third season at Florida State, so it is now or never for the former St. Thomas Aquinas High School standout. The Seminoles are loaded in the secondary, but they need an aggressive thumper in their defense to set the tone like he did versus Virginia Tech.

Coach White loves to utilize his safeties in the defense, where we could see three of them being called upon. In a perfect world, I could see a trio of Shyheim Brown, Earl Little Jr., and Conrad Hussey playing alongside each other.

However, defensive backs coaches Patrick Surtain and Evan Cooper have an impressively talented group that always has players such as Edwin Joseph, KJ Kirkland, Ashlynd Barker, Jarvis Boatwright Jr., and Max Redmon that could make a dent in the rotation.

Make no mistake about it... Hussey could be a sleeping giant in the defense.
