Should we rename the Seminoles?

Florida State football hired former UCF head football coach Gus Malzahn, offensive line coach Herb Hand, and wide receivers coach Tim Harris Jr. this offseason. Many within the fan base were wondering why the Seminoles were getting coaches from the Knights, who finished with a losing record in 2024.

This isn't saying that the coaches were horrible gets for the Seminoles, but fans didn't want to be called the "Florida State Knights"? Nonetheless, individuals just want to see Florida State football be successful and obtain wins.

The Seminoles finished with a 5-7 record in 2025, as they only won two of their last nine games. This gave everyone a bad taste in their mouths.

Wednesday afternoon was a crazy few hours, as 247Sports National College Football Senior Writer Matt Zenitz reported that Florida State would be hiring former UCF defensive backs coach Brandon Harris to work with the secondary.

This seemed to be a layup acquisition, since Harris's brother (Tim) is the wide receivers coach on staff. Plus, Brandon used to be an analyst with the Seminoles during the 2020 season. Was it worth dismissing defensive backs coach Patrick Surtain Sr. for him? That is to be determined, but nonetheless, this is a pivotal season for Florida State football.

The madness continued on Wednesday, as 247Sports National College Football Writer Chris Hummer also posted that Tulsa running backs coach Kam Martin has emerged as a target for the Seminoles' vacant running backs coach position.

Martin was an alumnus with the Auburn Tigers, but he has produced quality backs during his time as a position coach. The fan base was exhausted of the committee approach, especially when the rushers were taken out of the game when they were just starting to find their groove.

Martin also used to coach the UCF Knights, so the Seminoles could potentially have five assistant coaches that were a part of their program.
