Should FSU football fans worry about the 2026 recruiting class?

This is bad news for Florida State football recruiting.

FSU FOOTBALL RECRUITING

Florida State football finished with a 2-10 record in 2024, so head football coach Mike Norvell made the necessary changes to bring in new players and coaches to the roster. It isn't easy having new coaches on the staff for recruits and players.

However, the Seminoles finished on a high note in the 2025 recruiting class with prospects such as Kevin Wynn, Ousmane Kromah, and Jayvan Boggs (who should all be pivotal pieces for Florida State in the upcoming years).

Unfortunately, it cannot all be perfect sometimes when dealing with high school recruiting. The Seminoles had a run on commitments in June and early July, but that started to fizzle away as Florida State was relatively silent later on with the season on the horizon and the quiet period in place.

JAMES CARRINGTON DE-COMMITMENT

High school recruits can be some of the most challenging people to please, as numerous factors contribute to their satisfaction. However, the Seminoles got some bad news on Thursday afternoon as three-star defensive end James "Tank" Carrington de-committed from Florida State.

I wouldn't worry too much about this backed-off pledge by Carrington, as the Seminoles are still ranked as the 15th-best recruiting class in the 2026 cycle according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.

Defensive line coach Terrance Knighton was heavily criticized earlier this summer for not recruiting the position group to the standard at Florida State. However, those concerns have quieted down as the Seminoles have landed several prospects on the defensive line.

I wouldn't lose sleep over a de-commitment that happens in August, before the season has even kicked off. I think that Florida State will have a season that much of the fan base will be happy about. This 2026 recruiting class could have the opportunity to be special.
