Florida State football had a horrific 2024 season with a 2-10 record. The Seminoles are trying to find an appropriate level of consistency. This is not the standard of a program that is using to hoisting championships.
The 2023 campaign went well, and it was capped off by an undefeated regular season and a conference championship. However, the special season was ruined as the College Football Playoff placed a one-loss Alabama team in favor of the undefeated Seminoles.
While some individuals thought that the snub foreshadowed the Seminoles' failures in 2024, it could also be noted that Florida State had to play an Orange Bowl matchup versus the Georgia Bulldogs by a score of 63-3 in a game where several players opted out (I would have done the same thing).
I wish the Seminoles would have found a way to forfeit the game, but I understand that head football coach Mike Norvell isn't afraid to allow his players to have their moment to shine and grow from the experiences.
That said, the Bulldogs were a much more talented squad considering all of the opt-outs happened. They were determined to showcase that they belonged after the SEC Championship Game loss to Alabama knocked them out of the running for the College Football Playoff.
One of the impact players on that Georgia team was quarterback Carson Beck. The talented signal-caller made headlines as he was announcing that he would return for the 2024 season. However, Beck did not play as well where he recorded 3,400 passing yards with 28 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
Beck injured his elbow versus Texas in the SEC Championship Game and missed the College Football Playoff because of the injury. As a result, the Bulldogs had to play the young Gunnar Stockton.
The veteran was expected to declare for the 2025 NFL Draft and ride off into the sunset as he rehabbed from his injury. However, it is reported now that he has entered the transfer portal.
This is a heartbreaker for Georgia, but it might impact the Florida State Seminoles because arch-rival Miami Hurricanes are involved in the recruitment. The Hurricanes are used to spending on signal-callers and they still not be able to accomplish a simpler task of even appearing in a conference championship game.
I think the Seminole fan base should not be worried about Beck potentially getting him. I know that Cameron Ward was a good option for them last year. However, the Hurricanes are having to replace talented pieces on their offense.
