Florida State football head football coach Mike Norvell addressed the media on Tuesday afternoon after spring practice. The Seminoles are doing everything in their power to ensure optimism after its disastrous 2-10 season in 2024.
Norvell understands that 2025 is a pivotal year for the program as the Alabama Crimson Tide are coming to play the Seminoles in the season opener as they unveil the newly renovated Doak Campbell Stadium.
The program doesn't want a bad perception, but we know football is a contact sport and injuries happen from time to time. Unfortunately, Norvell shared some bad news on Tuesday as he announced that redshirt sophomore cornerback Edwin Joseph Jr. will miss the remainder of the spring with an injury.
Joseph Jr. was a former four-star prospect who performed well for Florida State during the 2024 season, where he recorded 13 tackles (3.5 for loss), 1.5 sacks, one interception, two pass breakups, and one blocked kick. He was known as someone who set the tone and played with a ton of pride and enthusiasm.
Luckily, Norvell did mention that there would be nothing that would keep him out of the summer. It is just a small injury. This is a breathe of fresh air for Seminole fans as they always expect the worst after last year as well as the season-ending injury to Jordan Travis in 2023.
Norvell did add that the injury will open up the opportunity for redshirt freshman Ricky Knight III. True freshman Shamar Arnoux has come in and tried to establish himself. Redshirt freshman Cai Bates has had some good moments. Redshirt freshman Charles Lester III is continuing to push.
Overall, the coaching staff did not acquire any defensive backs in the transfer portal, so they must feel confident with the position room that they currently have.
