Report: FSU continues to raid Nebraska, takes defensive line coach Terrance Knighton
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU football head coach Mike Norvell made two impressive coordinator hires in the past few days. Gus Malzahn on offense and Tony White on defense, and it looks like the rest of the staff will start coming together, beginning with Nebraska's defensive line coach, Terrance "Pot Roast" Knighton, following White to FSU.
It's not clear what this means for longtime FSU defensive line coach Odell Haggins. However, Knighton is a massive addition to the staff, literally and figuratively. He was with Tony White at Nebraska for the past two seasons and helped Nebraska field back-to-back top-20 defenses.
He played at Temple and was a third-round pick in the 2009 NFL Draft. He retired in 2017 to pursue a coaching career, starting at Wagner in 2019. Knighton moved to the Carolina Panthers from 2021-22 before joining White at Nebraska.
Knighton is only 38 years old and already has a reputation as one of the better defensive line coaches and a strong recruiter. He is credited with landing four composite blue-chip defensive linemen in his time with the Cornhuskers.
That's something FSU has desperately lacked in the last six-plus years as Odell Haggins begins to age. It was rumored Knighton could follow White when the announcement for the White hire took place.
I wrote on X that Nebraska James Williams entering the transfer portal could be a tale-tell sign. Williams announced he planned to enter the portal on Tuesday.
Knighton, coupled with White, could mean several players from Nebraska's top 20 defense could follow the tandem to Tallahassee. Several have expressed they planned to enter the portal before this news broke. FSU fans, FSU's defense could get a lot better in a hurry. Stay tuned!
