Darrell Jackson Jr. is one player that FSU fans can feel certain about getting selected in the NFL Draft two weeks from now. The defensive tackle has transformed his body over the past few months and did enough during the NFL Combine and individual workouts to keep his stock safe, but he ddin't do enough to project a big jump into a higher round.
The draft can be quite unpredictable and once you get outside the consensus agreement on the top 15–20 picks, anything can happen. It's not unusual to see a late first-round pick slip all the way to the top of the third round. It's just the way the cookie crumbles. With Jackson, we've always seemed to know that the ceiling is the top end of the third round. There aren't many mocks or projections that have the interior stopper higher than the third round. The discussion has been on Jackson's floor and his floor projection is around the 150th pick, which is the top-third of the fifth round.
Darrell Jackson Jr. get good news from recent NFL mock drafts
Two recent mock drafts provide good news for Jackson in terms of his draft floor. Chad Reuter of NFL.com has Jackson being selected with the 72nd overall pick by the Cincinnati Bengals and PFSN's Jacob Infante has Jackson going 86th overall to the Los Angeles Chargers with his simulated-assisted mock draft.Â
Jackson's projected status as a third-round pick took another positive step this week with a visit to the Pittsburgh Steelers.Â
Darrell Jackson Jr. was a #Steelers 30 visit we could see coming a mile away:

That'll do it. It wasn't just Mike Tomlin who valued these traits.
The draft reports on Jackson haven't changed much over the past few months. He's one of the most physically impressive-looking players at the position and Jackson has a ton of raw talent. But consistency was a major issue at FSU and there are question marks about his ability to become more of an impactful interior pass rusher. But the general belief is that Jackson possesses enough high-level traits that many teams believe he could be a starter or major rotational guy in the league.Â
