FSU FOOTBALL UNDERPERFORMED

Florida State lost to Virginia by a score of 46-38 in double overtime last night. The Seminoles looked like they weren't prepared for what the Cavaliers brought to the table.

The defense under coordinator Tony White has received criticism from the fan base after their performance allowed the Cavaliers to score 46 points. Virginia ran the football at an above-average clip with 211 rushing yards.

Running back J'Mari Taylor had 27 carries for 99 yards and one touchdown. Their offense matched the physicality of the Seminoles and brought it to them, even with a makeshift offensive line that had their starting center out.

QB THOMAS CASTELLANOS PLAY

The discussion for the loss to Virginia has centered around the defense being underwhelming. However, the Seminoles' offense was quite impressive, but they had a slow start in Charlottesville after being down 14-0 to start the game.

Quarterback Thomas Castellanos had a couple of wide throwing windows, but for the most part, the Virginia defense forced him to throw it downfield. Wide receiver Duce Robinson recorded nine receptions for 147 yards and one touchdown.

The 6'6" pass catcher had his way with the Virginia defenders, but the Seminoles could not finish the job on Friday night. Castellanos does not seem concerned as he seems to be in high spirits after the loss, with the following statement:

"I think we needed it. I would ride high. We were kinda smelling ourselves and feeling good. It's a little adversity. I think we will respond and bounce back. I think we needed it. It will be good for us moving forward. This will push us to work harder and continue to play harder. "

I know that the loss is difficult to fathom for the fan base, but Castellanos did have some nice moments in the contest. The former UCF and Boston College transfer had 332 total yards and two touchdowns. The throw that he had to tight end Randy Pittman Jr. when the team needed it most was impressive.

The offense will continue to grow together, and Castellanos will be a big piece of handling adversity with the loss.
