Florida State football had its second spring practice as they prepare for the 2024 season where the Seminoles are attempting to accomplish replicating an undefeated regular season and a conference championship from last season.

The team is having to replace several contributors from that special 2023 campaign. The coaching staff even decided to bring in 38 newcomers to its roster. With that being said, the defensive backfield will have to find new talent after losing Renardo Green, Jarrian Jones, and Akeem Dent.

Luckily enough, Florida State defensive backs coach Patrick Surtain Sr. has showcased his recruiting prowess in the 2024 recruiting cycle by acquiring four prospects such as Charles Lester III, Jamari Howard, Cai Bates, and Ricky Knight III. They also added two transfers in Earl Little Jr. (Alabama) and Davonte Brown (Miami).

The Seminoles are also returning several pieces in their secondary such as Azareye'h Thomas, Fentrell Cypress II, Shyheim Brown, Greedy Vance Jr., Kevin Knowles, and Conrad Hussey.

Can safety Conrad Hussey become a starter for the Seminoles in 2024?

The talented former four-star prospect had a productive season last year as a true freshman where he recorded 22 total tackles, two forced fumbles, and one interception. He was known to deliver hard hits in the middle of the field to opposing offensive players.

It was not clear as to whether or not Hussey would contribute as a true freshman since he was not an early enrollee (his high school did not allow it) and it was thought that it could take him time to acclimate to the collegiate game.

It is now time for the South Florida product to shine as veteran safety Akeem Dent has graduated. In terms of the other members of the secondary, I believe that Azareye'h Thomas and Fentrell Cypress II will be the outside cornerbacks, Earl Little Jr. will be the slot cornerback, and Shyheim Brown and Conrad Hussey will be the starting safeties.
