On Tuesday, the College Football Playoff Board of Managers approved a 5-7 model for the newly implemented 12-team College Football Playoff that will begin this season. In translation, this means that the five highest-ranked conference champions will receive an automatic playoff bid then the next seven teams with be granted an at-large bid.

We at ChopChat know why you are here: What does the new model mean for Florida State?

Unfortunately, the undefeated Seminoles were not granted the opportunity to compete for a national championship and one-loss Alabama was chosen over Florida State. The College Football Playoff committee stated that the reasoning behind it was the injury of starting quarterback Jordan Travis.

While most individuals know that this event is in the past (except for ESPN's Kirk Herbstreit), it is still disheartening for the Florida State football team that had several talented pieces. Fast forward to the 2024 season, the Seminoles have brought in several newcomers in hopes of replicating their success from a year ago.

If Florida State were to go undefeated this season, it would be virtually impossible for the Seminoles to be left out of the new College Football Playoff 12-team format. However, knowing how the committee values teams from the SEC and Big Ten, it could allow more of those teams from the conferences to get in.

Nonetheless, if Florida State finds a way to accomplish a top-four seed, it would secure a first-round bye. However, even if the Seminoles were able to achieve a seed between 5-8, they would be allowed to host a playoff game inside Doak Campbell Stadium.

Even with the renovations of Doak Campbell Stadium, the stadium should be rocking for a playoff matchup even with 50,000+ fans blaring the Warchant. It would be a fun matchup to see the Seminoles play a team like Ole Miss.
