True freshman TE Amaree Williams has impressed thus far in fall camp
Florida State was able to secure a talented playmaker in the 2024 class with a four-star defensive end Amaree Williams from The Benjamin School in North Palm Beach, Florida.
Williams was originally a five-star athlete in the 2025 cycle but he ended up reclassifying. He was primarily going to be utilized as a defensive end at Florida State. However, he did play wide receiver in high school where he recorded 424 yards and seven touchdowns during his final season.
The coaching staff decided to switch Williams to the tight end position (it is guaranteed that the switch will be permanent). The defensive end position is a bit crowded with Patrick Payton, Marvin Jones Jr., Sione Lolohea, Byron Turner Jr., and Aaron Hester all battling for snaps.
Plus, Williams is only 17 years old so the development might take a little bit longer at the defensive end position as opposed to tight end. The true freshman did enroll to Tallahassee in the summer, so he was a bit behind the 8-ball but the coaching staff likes what they see out of the North Palm Beach, Florida native thus far.
Head football coach Mike Norvell spoke about true freshman tight end Amaree Williams after the Seminoles' second fall scrimmage: "Amaree Williams had a big touchdown catch. I thought he had a huge jump from a week ago to what he was today."
It will be an adjustment period for the youngster with being a summer enrollee plus throwing in the fact that he is playing a new position. The development will come over time. However, it is nice to see Norvell impressed with his performance thus far.
The tight end position is wide open for the number-two spot alongside veteran Kyle Morlock. Big-time contributor Jaheim Bell declared for the 2024 NFL Draft so the position group will have to be filled with talent since the Seminoles regularly utilize their tight ends. I am excited to see if the former four-star prospect can emerge as a viable option on offense in 2024.
