True freshman kicker Jake Weinberg drills a 60-yard field goal
The offseason of a football team can be grueling, especially for content creators. However, the Seminoles' football program is coming off a successful 2023 campaign where it accomplished an undefeated regular season and a conference championship.
Head football coach Mike Norvell has this program going in the right direction in terms of sustainable success. The Seminoles' fan base was excited for what Florida State could accomplish in the 2023 season. One aspect that some individuals were skeptical in was how kicker Ryan Fitzgerald was going to produce.
After an unforgettable campaign in 2022, the Georgia native connected on only 12 of his 20 field goal attempts. Fitzgerald needed a massive junior season as the Seminoles brought in East Tennessee State transfer Tyler Keltner.
The Coolidge native delivered more than Seminole fans could imagine as he praised the changing of kicking techniques which led to him making 19 of his 21 field goal attempts. Fitzgerald is expected to have a phenomenal senior season for the Seminoles in 2024.
However, how will the kicker position go for Florida State when Fitzgerald graduates after this season? The coaching staff seems to have found their guy in true freshman kicker Jake Weinberg. The former three-star prospect of the 2024 recruiting class enrolled this summer.
Weinberg decided to go out to the practice field and drill a 60-yard field goal attempt. He did not waste any time when it came to improving himself each day. The kicker will learn under the wings of Fitzgerald this season but I would not discount his ability by any means.
Let's not forget the fact that the Seminoles' arch-rival Miami Hurricanes could not have their kickers kick these in their practice fields (*short practice field joke*). It is important that Weinberg could not accomplish this without the help of his teammates, Weston Edwards and Mac Chiumento.
