The dynamic weapon that will make the Seminoles' football offense unstoppable in 2024
Florida State football will be conducting its spring practice today as we inch closer and closer to the Garnet and Gold Spring Showcase on April 20th.
It will be interesting to see how the Seminoles continue to growth and develop with a roster that is filled with 38 scholarship newcomers. One player to monitor is running back Jaylin Lucas.
The former Indiana transfer recorded 67 carries for 275 yards and two touchdowns during the 2023 season with the Hoosiers. Fans were expecting to make his presence felt in the special teams aspect where he had 43 kickoff returns for 1,163 yards and three touchdowns. Fans understand that head football coach Mike Norvell emphasizes the importance of special teams.
While Lucas will most likely be a dynamic kickoff returner for the Seminoles' special teams unit, he will also have his opportunity to be featured in the offense. The 5'9", 175-pound do-it-all athlete has blazing speed that can be sometimes misunderstood.
Florida State has many talented backs on its roster, which included the newcomers that they added this offseason such as Roydell Williams, Kameron Davis, and Micahi Danzy (summer enrollee). However, Lucas should and will have a place in this offense.
The Seminoles will be adding a new quarterback to the mix in veteran transfer DJ Uiagalelei to replace the likes of ultra-talented option Jordan Travis. Uiagalelei will need effective methods to move the football. Jaylin Lucas could be that security blanket for the former Clemson and Oregon transfer.
Lucas could be used in the backfield, in the slot, and on the offense. Opposing defenses will have to pick their poison when it comes to defending the former Indiana transfer. As the spring practices continue, I expect Lucas to continue to wow the coaching staff as he looks to accumulate as many touches in the offense as possible.
