Takeaways from Mike Norvell speaking to the media after Tuesday's practice
TE POSITION ROOM DISCUSSION
The tight end position room is important to head football coach Mike Norvell given that they are a versatile group where they can play as in-line blockers, in the slot as well as outside receivers. The amount of talent in the room is noticeable.
Norvell starts by talking about Jackson West where he thinks that he has a chance to have a great year. West was a three-star prospect from his 2021 recruiting class. The tight end struggled with injuries early on in his career. However, he seems to find his place in the offense as he was involved in the rotation towards the end of the 2023 season.
Norvell also mentioned Brian Courtney taking some major steps. As it was noted before, Courtney originally moved to the linebacker position to see if he could blossom there. The experiment did not last long as he was back at the tight end position and starting to show flashes of being an effective piece in the offense.
Lastly, he discusses the fact that true freshman option Landen Thomas will play for them this year where he is on the fast track in his development. The former four-star prospect in the 2024 recruiting cycle has been raved about by the coaching staff for his continued development. Could he be able to push for the backup tight end spot alongside veteran Kyle Morlock?
