Should FSU fans worry about the lack of transfer portal acquisitions this spring?
WIDE RECEIVER
Florida State fans knew that it would be quite the adjustment when it came to losing big-bodied playmakers such as Keon Coleman and Johnny Wilson. It should also be mentioning that quarterback Jordan Travis will not be throwing the football for the Seminoles in 2024 as he is off to the NFL.
The coaching staff elected to pick up former Oregon State transfer DJ Uiagalelei, who is more than serviceable for what they are asking him to do. Uiagalelei has a strong arm that pushes the football downfield. As a result, the Seminoles added speed to their wide receiver room in Malik Benson and Jalen Brown.
Wide receiver coach Ron Dugans has a task in front of him that involves getting several players on the roster such as Hykeem Williams, Kentron Poitier, Darion Williamson, Deuce Spann, JaKhi Douglas who aren't considered "house hold names". I thought Williams would have emerged in the spring showcase, but he did not record a reception.
Personally, I believe the depth is fine at wide receiver unless you know a "Keon Coleman type" of playmaker in the transfer portal. The injury of Malik Benson during the Spring Showcase was concerning. All signs point to him being okay. It goes without saying some of the wide receivers need to start showing up.
