It seems like Florida State football fans talk about the linebacker position until they are blue in the face every year. It is not to say that the position itself is the worst on the team, but the depth is lacking more than you would like.

The Seminoles were lucky to retain veteran DJ Lundy from signing with head football coach Deion Sanders and Colorado. Lundy decided to come back to Tallahassee for his senior season. The productive linebacker has showcased flashes during his time in garnet and gold, but his major weakness is covering in space. Ironically enough, he showed off his covering skills in the showcase.

Florida State has to hit the reset/retool button after losing ultra-production options Kalen DeLoach and Tatum Bethune. Both DeLoach and Bethune were the top two leading tackles for the Seminoles' defense in 2023.

Even though the Seminoles added Alabama's Shawn Murphy via the transfer portal, some Florida State fans feel like position coach Randy Shannon can develop the likes of Shawn Murphy, Justin Cryer, Blake Nichelson, Omar Graham Jr., and DeMarco Ward.

I think there is more than enough talent to go around in the position group to get a starting linebacker to pair alongside DJ Lundy.

SOLUTION: Development of the younger players
