Score prediction/analysis for Florida State versus SMU game
Florida State football is riding high after their first win of the 2024 season versus the California Golden Bears by a score of 14-9. It is great to see the Seminoles continue to showcase heart and dedication even when the year has not gone to what the program expected.
With that being said, Florida State will be taking on the SMU Mustangs this Saturday in the hostile environment of Gerald J. Ford Stadium in Dallas, Texas at 8:00 PM EST. The Mustangs are coming off a massive win versus TCU by a score of 66-42.
SMU head football coach Rhett Lashlee is classified as an offensive-minded individual with being a former offensive coordinator. Lashlee made the change to dual-threat quarterback Kevin Jennings in place of veteran Preston Stone.
The good news for the Seminoles is that their defense had one of their best performances versus California where they kept them out of the end zone. However, the bad news is that through the first four games, the offense has been one of the worst units in the country.
While much of the blame has been placed on quarterback transfer DJ Uiagalelei, the offensive line, wide receivers, and running backs have also been underwhelming. The most points that the offense has scored is 21 points versus Georgia Tech in their season opener.
We are back at it again with our ChopChat staff score predictions where this contest can be a difficult to get a grasp on. However, much like the last couple of games, this is a game that Florida State desperately needs for positive momentum.
Honestly, I worry about the offensive output for the Seminoles against the Mustangs. I think that the defense can keep it competitive but the offense needs to showcase a sense of life before I can fully trust Florida State to get the job done against a solid SMU team.
I hope that we can provide a jinx to the Mustangs and the Seminoles get a much-needed win.
Taylor Devers: 23-17 SMU
