The Florida State Seminoles constructed a phenomenal 2024 recruiting class filled with several highly-touted prospects. While fans want to focus primarily on the 2025 cycle, I believe that it is important to also discuss about the true freshmen that are on the Seminoles' roster.

The wide receiver position is loaded with talent. Players include four-star prospects such as BJ Gibson, Camdon Frier, Elijah Moore, and Lawayne McCoy.

Speaking of McCoy, wide receivers coach Ron Dugans spoke to the media recently and raved about the ability of the South Florida native. Dugans even stated that he has missed portions of Tour of Duty workouts and meetings so the coaching staff is trying to get him up to speed.

The Seminoles want to get him acclimated to the collegiate game. The skill set is there considering that he was considered the 6th-best athlete (he played wide receiver and defensive back) in last year's recruiting cycle.

It was great to see Florida State be able to get McCoy out of the arch-rival Miami Hurricanes' backyard as he recorded 27 receptions for 616 yards and seven touchdowns for Miami Central High School.

The coaching staff has already raved about the ability of Camdon Frier early on. We can now add McCoy to the list. It is difficult to expect true freshmen to get significant playing time due to them still learning the offense.

However, the Seminoles are having to replace their top three pass catchers from a season ago (Johnny Wilson, Keon Coleman, and Jaheim Bell) as they all declared for the 2024 NFL Draft. Florida State needs to bring in as much talent as they possibly can.

McCoy is listed at 6'1" and 180 pounds and is electric in the open field. With him being a true freshman, he will need to put on the necessary weight to be successful. However, it is a good sign that the coaching staff is talking about him already. He just needs to be consistent.
