Florida State has to replace several pieces on its defensive line with Jared Verse, Braden Fiske, Fabien Lovett Sr., Malcolm Ray, Gilber Edmond, and Ayobami Tifase.

However, that should not discount the fact that the Seminoles return several talented options. Defensive ends coach John Papuchis has the luxury of having players who showcase a special skill set. Even though Verse had 18 sacks through his two-year playing career in Tallahassee, the other pass rushers look ready to make a name for themselves.

Florida State added defensive linemen via the transfer portal such as Marvin Jones Jr., Sione Lolohea, Tomiwa Durojaiye, and Grady Kelly. While some of those guys get attention from the fan base, it should be noted that the Seminoles have plenty of options to choose from.

Florida State head football coach Mike Norvell talked to the media after Tuesday's practice. During the session, he discussed that redshirt junior defensive end Jaden Jones was one of the most improved players this spring.

That is great to hear since Jones had originally dealt with injuries even when the Seminoles were recruiting him. Ironically enough, the coaching staff was going to visit the number one JUCO wide receiver prospect in the country (Malik Benson) at the time and come across his teammate (Jaden Jones) who they offered after visiting.

A knee injury limited the action in his first season as Jones only saw appearances in mop-up duty. It is reasonable to suggest that Patrick Payton and Marvin Jones Jr. would be your starters at defensive end while Sione Lolohea (will get plenty of playing time/could even co-start) and Byron Turner Jr. would be the reserves.

Depending on how much they utilize Tomiwa Durojaiye at the defensive end or defensive tackle position, I could see where Jaden Jones could find a sizable role on the team in 2024.
