Philadelphia Eagles select former FSU WR Johnny Wilson with 185th pick
Florida State football enjoyed the successes of their 2023 campaign which included an undefeated regular season and an ACC championship. While the College Football Playoff committee did not give them the opportunity to compete for a national championship, it was still a team to remember.
The offense had special pieces on it such as quarterback Jordan Travis, running back Trey Benson, wide receivers Keon Coleman and Johnny Wilson, and tight end Jaheim Bell. The Seminoles are heading into the 2024 season with their three top wide receivers from a season ago heading to the NFL.
Speaking of Wilson, he was a mismatch nightmare for opposing defense as he stood at 6'7". All you had to do as a quarterback was throw the football up and he would go grab it. During the 2023 season for the Seminoles, the former Arizona State transfer recorded 41 receptions for 617 yards and two touchdowns.
Unfortunately, Wilson dealt with a ton of adversity where he missed time with concussion issues. The big-bodied playmaker has not been the most consistent option with his problem with dropping passes. Even with that flaw in his game, he still came down with contested catches that helped the Seminoles' offense move the football with ease on third downs when they had to have it.
On Saturday, Wilson heard his name called as the Philadelphia Eagles selected him with the 185th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. This is potentially a great spot for "Birdman" as he looks to be a consistent go-to option in the professional ranks.
Former Alabama and Oklahoma quarterback Jalen Hurts should find ways to utilize his size in the red zone. Head football coach Mike Norvell made it a priority to feature Wilson in their offense in Tallahassee. Could the Eagles do the same with the California native?
