LB SHAWN MURPHY

The linebacker position is having to replace the likes of veteran linebackers such as Kalen DeLoach and Tatum Bethune, who are now off to the NFL. The Seminoles were thought to be in major rebuild mode as senior DJ Lundy entered the transfer portal and committed to Colorado.

However, Lundy elected to return to Tallahassee and play his final season at Florida State with linebackers coach Randy Shannon. Shannon still has his work cut out for him to find the right rotation pieces to pair alongside Lundy.

Shannon is a tremendous development with many years of coaching experience. However, the players behind Lundy did not have much collegiate experience. As we learned with Florida State, they love Alabama Crimson Tide transfers as they decided to pick up linebacker Shawn Murphy.

Just like some of the transfers they acquired, Murphy did not do much in Tuscaloosa. However, he was a former four-star prospect who possessed the skill of being an effective linebacker in the defense. Mike Norvell alluded to the fact that Murphy has showcased his ability to be a serviceable run-stopper which they need in their 4-2-5 defensive scheme.

Murphy has a chance to be a starting linebacker for Florida State in 2024.
