How will the running game shape up for the Seminoles during the 2024 season?
Florida State's offense has always been centered on their ability to run the football. Unfortunately, the Seminoles will have to replace the likes of redshirt junior Trey Benson in the running back room as he declared for the 2024 NFL Draft.
Disclaimer: Benson could realistically be a second-round pick in the upcoming NFL Draft starting on Thursday. We at ChopChat are so proud of former Seminole and his response to adversity after suffering the horrific injury early in his career with the Oregon Ducks.
The coaching staff elected to go to the transfer portal to get talented backs such as Roydell Williams (Alabama) and Jaylin Lucas (Indiana). Williams showcased flashes in the spring showcase where Norvell even alluded to him doing some nice things. As for Lucas, the speed is something that won't be ignored this season.
The Seminoles also added two highly-touted recruits in former four-star prospects such as Kameron Davis (who did not dress out in the showcase) and Micahi Danzy (enrolling at Florida State in the summer). As a result, Florida State has a ton of talent in the position room.
The coaching staff understands what they have in veteran Lawrance Toafili and he knows his role on the team. Florida State is introducing transfer quarterback DJ Uiagalelei to the offense after having Jordan Travis in the system for four years.
I am suggesting that Uiagalelei will set the world on fire by being top-five in the Heisman Trophy rankings at the end of the year. However, the signal-caller will not make critical mistakes to put his squad in harm's way.
I think this is where the coaching staff gives the tools for Uiagalelei to be successful but they won't have to put him in circumstances where they have to ask him to throw the football at a high rate. I believe that the tools that they have at running back will allow the offense to be around 58% run/42% pass so that they can set up the passing game throughout the contests.
