Florida State football conducted yet another spring practice on Tuesday afternoon. After the practice, head football coach Mike Norvell spoke to the media about injury updates. This is significant given that Norvell rarely talks about injuries.

Spring practices allow the multiple newcomers to play with the veterans who have already had significant snaps during their collegiate career with the Seminoles. Norvell stated to the media that offensive tackle Robert Scott Jr. and defensive tackle Joshua Farmer will be out for the remainder of the spring.

Both players (who are expected to be contributors in 2024) will be back by the summer or at the very latest fall camp. Unfortunately, Norvell did not have a positive outlook on true freshman defensive back Jamari Howard where he stated that he will also miss the remainder of the spring and he could also miss an extended time during the regular season.

As it relates to Scott Jr., he struggled during the 2023 season. The former three-star prospect from the Class of 2020 has played a ton of snaps during his career with Florida State. The miles on his body could be taking an effect on his availability. I hope this rest allows Scott Jr. to finally be healthy.

With Farmer, this could be a precautionary surgery where he will be ready for the summer. The talented defensive tackle is looking to be a starter in the middle of the defense alongside ultra-skilled Darrell Jackson Jr. It concerns me less about Farmer than Scott Jr. due to the offensive tackle's injury history.

Lastly, the update with Howard is unfortunate given that he has not even suited up in garnet and gold for an actual game. Defensive backs coach Patrick Surtain Sr. accumulated four prospects in the 2024 recruiting cycle with Jamari Howard, Charles Lester III, Cai Bates, and Ricky Knight III.

With the defensive back room being so talented, it does not seem as urgent with two potential starters in Scott Jr. and Farmer being injured. However, I am confident in head football coach Mike Norvell and company to be able to manage through the adversity.
