FSU's offensive production has to be better if it wants to be successful in 2024

Florida State's offensive production has to be better.

Florida State football secured its first victory of the 2024 season with a win over the California Golden Bears. We already discussed how the defense played lights out once again in a time where the Seminoles needed it the most.

There are still eight games remaining in the regular season. The schedule also has some games that could present a challenge for the Seminoles, such as SMU, Clemson, Miami, Notre Dame, and Florida.

One point of concern is the offense. They have scored 21 (Georgia Tech), 13 (Boston College), 12 (Memphis), and 14 (California), respectively. That offensive output is not going to cut it. Head football coach Mike Norvell is regarded as one of the best play-callers in the country.

However, it is worrisome that they have crucial playmakers missing from last year's squad, such as Jordan Travis, Trey Benson, Johnny Wilson, Keon Coleman, and Jaheim Bell. That is not one of those losses that you easily bounce back from.

Fans have been clamoring for a quarterback change from DJ Uiagalelei to Brock Glenn. However, the coaching staff has elected to stick with the veteran Uiagalelei. The offense got stagnant at times, where it seemed there was a sense of hopelessness minus a few splash plays.

What could be the solution to the issue? I believe the answer has to be making the offense simplistic. During the post-game press conference, defensive tackle Joshua Farmer alluded to the fact that defensive coordinator Adam Fuller cut out some of the complex schemes and just allowed them to play freely.

I believe that head football coach Mike Norvell needs to do the same, as the offense needs to simplify their looks with slant, motions, and throw in deep shots to keep the opposing defenses honest. I realize that DJ Uiagalelei isn't Jordan Travis. He is not the same runner to keep plays alive.

However, he just needs to be Uiagalelei and settle into his strength of throwing the football downfield without overthinking. It is not a complicated situation offensively.

I realize that it was a victory on Saturday, and I am very glad that the squad found a way to win, but the next step is constantly improving on the offensive side of the football.
