FSU QB DJ Uiagalelei opts out of ACC Kickoff in favor of his Seminole teammates
Florida State football finished the 2023 season with an undefeated regular season and conference championship. Unfortunately, the Seminoles were unfairly excluded from the College Football Playoff in favor of a one-loss Alabama Crimson Tide team.
The Seminoles do not have several contributors that make their squad special from a season ago. One player that is notable from that 2023 team is quarterback Jordan Travis.
While I know it will be difficult to replicate what Travis did for this university on and off the field, the coaching staff did go out this offseason and added former Clemson and Oregon State quarterback DJ Uiagalelei. The veteran is expected to be the starting signal-caller in 2024.
Uiagalelei is a veteran presence with a strong arm to initiate downfield passes for long-yardage gains. It is exactly what the Seminoles need this season to get their speedy playmakers in space.
Florida State and Georgia Tech are going to be the first teams to participate in the ACC Kickoff media sessions having their season opener in Week 0. The Seminoles were most definitely going to showcase their new quarterback, DJ Uiagalelei.
On Tuesday afternoon, Uiagalelei announced on social media that he would not be attending the ACC Kickoff. He wants the players who were part of last season's ACC Championship to represent the university.
Culture is a cliche statement that is utilized a ton in today's landscape of college football. However, head football coach Mike Norvell has set a firm foundation for his program in Tallahassee. This was such as awesome sign of respect from Uiagalelei.
Even though he has not taken an actual in-game snap at Florida State, you can tell how passionate he is about the university and what it stands for. As it relates to the ACC Kickoff, I think that the Seminoles will bring running back Lawrance Toafili and defensive end Patrick Payton to represent Florida State at the media event.
