FSU kicker signee Jake Weinberg makes a 70-yard field goal attempt
Florida State had several highly-touted prospects from the 2024 recruiting class such as four-star quarterback Luke Kromenhoek, four-star running back Kameron Davis, four-star tight end Landen Thomas, and four-star cornerback Charles Lester III.
Some individuals away from the fan base suggest that head football coach Mike Norvell can only acquire transfer portal prospects. However, the fact of the matter is that the program has a system in place when they add high school prospects and also veteran transfers that fill holes throughout the roster.
The Seminoles have a special program in place where they have a combined 23-4 record over the past two seasons. It is frustrating with what transpired in December with the College Football Playoff committee leaving an undefeated Florida State team in favor of one-loss Alabama.
The program has done a tremendous job developing players that they have on the roster. They instill confidence in players even when things aren't exactly going their way.
One player to note is kicker Ryan Fitzgerald. The Georgia native was a talking point from Seminole fans due to his inconsistencies where he was directly impacting games with his performance. During the 2022 season, Fitzgerald connected on 12 of his 20 field goal attempts.
During the middle part of the 2022 season, Fitzgerald alluded to the point that he changed his technique and gained confidence in himself where he finished 8/11 to end the year. The talented kicker redeemed himself last year, making 19 of his 21 field goals.
Fitzgerald is now going into the 2024 season where he will be a senior. The Seminoles picked up three-star kicker Jake Weinberg, who will be arriving in the summer. While Weinberg will not be in the plan for this upcoming campaign, it is great to see that the Seminoles have a plan in place for life after Fitzgerald.
On Sunday, the kicker posted a video on social media where he connected on a 70-yard field goal.
This showcases his massive leg as a kicker and I know that he has to feel great after kicking an absolute missile like that. It reminds me of former Florida State kicker Dustin Hopkins kicking game-winners in Doak Campbell Stadium. Overall, it seems like the Seminoles are in great hands with their kicker situation.
