FSU football: Will the Seminoles try a trick play when they face Memphis?
Florida State football is entering Saturday's contest versus the Memphis Tigers with a 0-2 record with losses to Georgia Tech and Boston College. The Seminoles are having to pick themselves up after the season isn't going how they would like.
Head football coach Mike Norvell is facing off against his former team that he coached for four seasons. Ironically enough, current Memphis head football coach Ryan Silverfield was a top candidate to join Norvell when he was hired by the Seminoles in 2019.
The relationships between the two are there and it would feel as though they should pretty much know what the other one is doing. The Seminoles' fan base is pressing the panic button after their start while Memphis is chomping at the bit to play Florida State.
That is a dangerous situation to be in. If history repeats itself, Norvell will have his squad ready to perform, especially after a bye week.
Fans should expect Florida State to pull out all of the stops. They will continue to point to the fact that changes need to be made in a variety of positions. However, Norvell has expressed confidence in this squad and their ability to be successful.
That means that the Seminoles could be a bit unpredictable. As fans saw with the double pass play versus Boston College, trick plays could be in order. It is interesting to note that true freshman running back Kameron Davis as well as redshirt senior wide receiver Deuce Spann played quarterback in high school.
Norvell has not been afraid to go against the grain and do something that could involve risk. I believe that a 1-2 record would be better than a 0-3 record in terms of fully sending the youth movement in Tallahassee. I think the coaching staff understands what is at stake versus Memphis and if a trick play is worth the investment then I believe that they will try it.
