FSU football already secured the signing of Georgia sophomore defensive end transfer Marvin Jones Jr., which was a massive acquisition for the Seminoles' coaching staff.

However, on Wednesday afternoon, it was reported by 247Sports' Matt Zenitz that redshirt junior defensive end Gilber Edmond has entered the transfer portal. The former South Carolina transfer was utilized as a viable backup option behind the likes of redshirt junior Jared Verse and redshirt sophomore Patrick Payton.

Florida State has done a tremendous job when it comes to acquiring highly-touted pass rushers in the transfer portal such as Jermaine Johnson II, Keir Thomas, and Jared Verse. However, with the former Albany transfer declaring for the 2024 NFL Draft, the Seminoles will have to find options to lessen the loss of a defender with 18 sacks in his two-year playing career in Tallahassee.

One option in the transfer portal that the coaching staff is very intrigued by is Purdue defensive end Nic Scourton, who had 50 tackles (15 for loss) and 10 sacks for the Boilermakers in 2023. He has scheduled an official visit with Florida State for January 4th.

However, Texas A&M received his official visit on January 3rd. He is originally from Bryan (TX). Unfortunately, 247Sports Director of Football Recruiting Steve Wiltfong put in a crystal ball prediction in favor of the Aggies this afternoon. Will Scourton take any more official visits after visiting College Station?

You would have to imagine that Florida State still has an opportunity if he visits on Thursday, but it could be extremely difficult given that he is from the Texas area. Where does the coaching staff go from here if Scourton elects to commit to Texas A&M?

As of right now, the Seminoles have pass rushers such as redshirt junior Patrick Payton, redshirt junior Byron Turner Jr., redshirt junior Jaden Jones, junior Marvin Jones Jr., redshirt sophomore Aaron Hester, redshirt freshman Lamont Green Jr., and freshman Daniel Holmes.

While I envision that the staff acquires another pass rusher to the group, I do not expect them to rush into taking a defensive end to just grab another "body". Florida State has been known as a transfer portal destination for exceptional pass rushers. Regardless of what occurs with Scourton, the Seminoles will be fine.
