FSU football: Top remaining portal needs as spring semester begins
By Kelvin Hunt
Linebacker
The linebacker position is one that FSU needs the most immediate help. They will lose Kalen DeLoach and Tatum Bethune to the NFL Draft, and their most experienced returning linebacker, DJ Lundy, opted to transfer to Colorado. The latter could have been because he knew FSU would pursue multiple linebackers in the portal. Nevertheless, FSU has done so and gotten two guys to officially visit recently. Charlotte's Nikhai Hill-Green and Syracuse's Stefon Thompson were on campus last week.
The former looks like he'd be the best fit, and committed to UCF before visiting FSU. We'll have to see if FSU pushes hard for his commitment. Thompson came from Syracuse's 3-3-5 defense, and is a bigger linebacker with some production. My question about him is, can he cover in space when FSU's in a 4-2-5 defense? If FSU doesn't add any linebackers before spring practice starts, that wouldn't be ideal, as they'd benefit greatly from the experience to learn Adam Fuller's defense.
