FSU football: Top 5 concerns going into the 2024 season
By Kelvin Hunt
Defensive Tackle Depth
One of the things that made the defensive line so great in 2023 was the depth and ability to rotate to keep guys fresh late in games. FSU had three bonafide starters: Joshua Farmer, Braden Fiske, and Fabien Lovett. Farmer returns, and former high school teammate Darrell Jackson will join him as a starter. Transfers Grady Kelly, Tomiwa Durojaiye, and young guys Daniel Lyons and KJ Sampson will likely enter the rotation.
The two starters should be outstanding, especially if Jackson consistently performs at a high level. What will the drop-off be if one or both starters are out of the game? Will FSU have to pair one of the starters with a backup every time? If so, will those guys wear down as the season progresses? Can Kelly, Durojaiye, Lyons, or Sampson provide anything close to what Fabien Lovett did in 2023? If so, FSU will be stout against the run and whip most offensive lines up front. If FSU lost one of the starters, how would that affect the unit overall?
