The 2022 LSU game was an important one from a perception standpoint. FSU finished the 2021 season under .500, and LSU had won a National Championship a few years earlier. LSU had a new head coach, Brian Kelly, a more talented roster, and the game was at a neutral site in Louisiana. Both teams were in similar positions, but LSU got the benefit of the doubt because they were in the SEC. The game was in primetime, and all of the college football world wanted to see which team would be the one who looked to ascend to greatness.

FSU dominated much of the game and arguably should have won the game going away, but they were a team still learning how to win. Many new faces were playing important roles. It was only the second game at FSU for Jared Verse, Johnny Wilson, Mycah Pittman, and others. However, this win catapulted FSU's standing among college football folks. It was a statement win, a win signaling FSU was on the rise, going on the road and beating a more talented team.
