The Cheez-it Bowl against Oklahoma was a big game for the Noles. The consensus was they had lost to all the ranked teams they played that season, and hadn't beaten anyone good. Oklahoma's record wasn't impressive, but they had endured some injuries throughout the season and had most of those players back. FSU had suffered injuries too, which impacted their season. The Sooners opened a 14-3 lead and a huge holding penalty probably changed the game, as it took a touchdown and 21-3 lead away, with Oklahoma eventually settling for a 45-yard field goal and missing.

The Noles battled back to take the lead in the third quarter before it became a back-and-forth affair. Ryan Fitzgerald kicked a 32-yard field goal with 55 seconds remaining and the FSU defense ended the game on a Jared Verse sack. The game provided FSU with it's first 10-win season since 2016, and helped spark the return of several veterans for the magical 2023 season. It helped put FSU back on the map, finishing the season No. 11 in the AP poll.
