I'm not sure Jones sticks with his commitment to FSU. A small part of me believes the coaches may have thought they could kill two birds with one stone, meaning commitments from Jones and Ffrench. I have no proof of that, but it seems plausible. FSU took two blue-chip quarterbacks in the 2024 recruiting cycle, and they have Smigiel committed for the 2026 recruiting cycle. They also have other 2025 options, like Carter Smith and Luke Nickel, committed elsewhere. Here's the thing. Jones has talent but isn't thought to be a sure-fire multiple-year starter, especially not with Luke Kromenhoek one year ahead of him, and Smigiel one year behind him if he sticks to his commitment.

Admittedly, 2026 is a long time away and Smigiel is from the West Coast, and we know how those recruitments can change. However, FSU can't afford to allow a quarterback recruit to flirt with other teams, especially a rival, and not do their homework. It also sends a message to future quarterback recruits, though I thought how they handled the Chris Parson situation should have been clear.
