FSU Football: Reactions to 2024 Spring Game Showcase
Florida State is doing well so far preparing for the upcoming season. The Seminoles have lost key players from last season but are filling in the positions with returning players and new additions from the transfer portal. Led by head coach Mike Norvell, these players should have no problem winning another ACC Championship and becoming a contender in the College Football Playoff this season.
Since Mike Norvell arrived at Florida State, the offense has improved each season. Norvell's 'all gas no brake' approach has made the offense an explosive force. Picking up DJ Uiagalelei from the transfer portal was one of the smartest offseason moves. Other offensive playmakers like Lawrance Toafili, Ja'Khi Douglas, Hykeem Williams, Deuce Spann, and Malik Benson will step up this season as well. Hopefully, Malik Benson's injury suffered in the Spring Game Showcase is not too serious, and he will be ready to play in the fall.
The biggest strength for Florida State last season was defense, which is something Norvell wants to continue to build this upcoming season. Georgia transfer Marvin Jones Jr. will be a huge asset in the backfield. Patrick Payton and Joshua Farmer will swarm the backfield as well. The secondary is absolutely loaded with Conrad Hussey, Shyheim Brown, and new transfer Earl Little Jr. Many are looking forward to seeing what Earl Little Jr. can do at FSU as he is already showing promise in the offseason.
The Spring Showcase turned out to be a success. DJ Uiagalelei looked very confident and consistent in the pocket. Despite Malik Benson's injury in the game, there's a lot to get excited about. The running game showed promise with Lawrance Toafili leading the way by keeping the ball moving. Running backs Caziah Holmes and Roydell Williams scored a touchdown, which was great to see.
Defense also looked dangerous. Marvin Jones Jr. and DJ Lundy each broke up a pass as they stormed the backfield the entire game. The secondary also brought the heat with tight coverage and several pass breakups. This defense is looking scary! If they play like they did in the Spring Showcase, the struggle will be real for many opposing offenses.
Ryan Fitzgerald showed in the spring game that is still solid at making field goals. His improvement throughout his college career has not been unnoticed. The Seminoles are very appreciative of him.
Overall, many were pleased with the team performance. Below are some reactions from the Spring Showcase.
