FSU football: RB Jaylin Lucas is sidelined for the remainder of 2024 with an injury
Florida State football seems to be getting worse as the season progresses. The squad now has an 0-2 record with losses over Georgia Tech and Boston College. The Seminoles were picked to win the conference in the preseason. However, that projection seems to vanished within a two-week span.
The Seminole faithful is starting to lose patience in head football coach Mike Norvell's fifth season. As individuals say when things go wrong: "When it rains, it pours." Florida State plays Memphis this weekend and has had two pivotal recruits back off their pledge recently in four-star defensive tackle Myron Charles and four-star defensive end Javion Hilson.
Norvell met with the media on Monday afternoon and stated that junior running back/kickoff returner Jaylin Lucas is out for the remainder of the 2024 season after he suffered a season-ending injury versus Boston College. Norvell did state that he plans to have him back in 2025.
Lucas was picked up via the transfer portal this offseason from the Indiana Hoosiers. The talented playmaker was expected to be utilized all over the field as a running back, receiving threat out of the backfield, in the slot, on the outside, and as a special teams returner.
After the Seminoles' Georgia Tech season-opening loss, Norvell stated to the media that he wanted to get Lucas more involved in the game plan. We talked about how the former Indiana transfer needed to have more than four touches.
During the Boston College game, he had two receptions for 34 yards. It was a shame that he will be out for the remainder of the season. It looks like Lucas's brother (current wide receiver Ja'Khi Douglas) will have to be a bigger piece in the offense to make it a respectable unit.
It all starts with putting Florida State back in the win column. However, this is far from what the Seminoles wanted.
