FSU football: Post-spring camp power rankings for all ACC teams

No. 8
Duke Blue Devils (8-5, 4-4 ACC)
The Duke Blue Devils have a new coach, with former Miami head coach Manny Diaz replacing Mike Elko. The good news for Diaz is he's not taking over an entire new rebuild the way Elko did after David Cutcliffe left Duke. Mike Elko shot himself in the foot playing Riley Leonard against FSU, which caused Duke to play without Leonard for the rest of the season. If he sat Leonard against FSU, there was a decent shot they could have made the ACC Championship game.
Diaz is a defensive-minded coach and I think that's important because Elko was a former defensive coordinator. However, Diaz was smart enough to know he needed a talented quarterback, with Riley Leonard transferring to Notre Dame. He took former Texas quarterback Maalik Murphy from the transfer portal. Duke opens with a favorable schedule before running a gauntlet of North Carolina, Georgia Tech, Florida State, SMU, at Miami, at NC State, and hosting Virginia Tech. Their record likely won't be favorable because of it, but then again they could make a statement in Diaz's first year.
