FSU football lost both talented wide receivers Johnny Wilson and Keon Coleman to the NFL. However, help is on the way as they signed four highly-touted pass catchers in the 2024 recruiting cycle with four-stars Lawayne McCoy, Elijah Moore, BJ Gibson, and Camdon Frier.

On Saturday afternoon, the Seminoles got even stronger with the depth of the position as former LSU wide receiver transfer Jalen Brown committed to Florida State.

Brown was a former Class of 2023 four-star prospect that the Florida State Seminoles were heavily interested in before he elected to sign with the LSU Tigers. However, the Gulliver Prep standout had a tremendous relationship with wide receivers coach Ron Dugans. This likely kept the Seminoles in it when the South Florida native decided to enter the transfer portal.

In today's college football landscape, players enter the transfer portal all of the time due to several factors. You never truly know if the long-lasting relationships that were developed in the early process would pay dividends. While it is never wise to spin the fact that it is better to finish second in recruitment instead of obtaining the signatures, these are teenagers making one of the most important decisions in their lifetimes.

Overall, Brown will likely take a bit to get acclimated to the collegiate game given that he did not record any statistics during the 2023 season. Some fans worry that this acquisition could push out wide receivers like Hykeem Williams, Dre Jacobs, or Destyn Hill. However, in the game of football, you have to continue to stack depth at positions to gain the most from your squad.

This coaching staff is fully prepared to build this offense for the future and Brown could be a scary piece to build upon for the years to come (considering that he has four years of eligibility remaining) if he puts his head down and works relentlessly.
