FSU football: Noles are involved with two highly-touted transfer prospects

Florida State will, unfortunately, be losing redshirt junior Trey Benson (who declared for the 2024 NFL Draft), redshirt sophomore CJ Campbell Jr. (who transferred to Florida Atlantic), and redshirt freshman Rodney Hill (who transferred to Florida A&M) at the running back position.
As I alluded to in a previous article, the Seminoles do not have proven talent at the position and will likely have to dabble in the transfer portal. While players such as Caziah Holmes and Lawrance Toafili as well as prized signee Kameron Davis are skilled, none of them have been workhorse backs at the collegiate level.
Running backs coach David Johnson has built a phenomenal culture within the rotation where players in the position room are ready to seize their opportunity when their moment is called.
Trey Benson has been a productive rusher for the Seminoles where he has recorded over 1,800 rushing yards in the last two seasons for Florida State. It could be that the Seminoles want to secure a productive veteran option in the transfer portal if the right fit presents itself.
Florida State might have found that option as On3's Pete Nakos has reported that Toledo running back Peny Boone has narrowed his recruitment list down to Florida State, Louisville, and Kentucky.
Boone has been extremely productive for the Rockets as he recorded 194 carries for 1,400 yards and 15 touchdowns during the 2023 season, which awarded him the MAC Offensive Player of the Year. The offense will be losing a ton of veteran pieces in 2024. It could be a smart investment to acquire a veteran back who can take pressure off the young wide receivers.
