The Trenches

"Pat had an early sack. You saw Darrell Jackson definitely flash. Saw Marvin Jones Jr., Sione [Lolohea], Tomi[wa Durojaiye], all those guys I thought had good moments. Byron Turner showed up."

"It was a mix, not just in the passing game, but I'm looking for the impact in run game. Being able to create penetration."

"There were some plays that got out on us. I think the technique and fundamental elements of what we're doing, make sure we are keeping our eyes where they need to be will be big, a big correction coming off of this practice."

"I thought the defensive front did a really solid job."

Thoughts

If I had to translate this, I think Mike Norvell is trying to say he likes the depth they have on the defensive line. He likes what they do from a pass-rush standpoint, but he's looking for improvement in the run game. FSU struggled to contain the run game when Jared Verse wasn't on the field last year. The defensive ends lost contain way too much, especially in the Orange Bowl, and it sounds like that may have happened too often in Thursday's scrimmage. We have to remember Joshua Farmer didn't participate, which meant young guys like Daniel Lyons and KJ Sampson likely got more reps. I'm sure this will be an area of focus moving forward for Coach Papuchis and Coach Haggins.
