FSU football: Jalen Brown and Kevin Knowles II stand out about depth chart release
Florida State football will be taking on the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in Dublin, Ireland on Saturday, August 24th. The Seminoles will be welcoming in several newcomers this season from the transfer portal and recruiting trail.
Head football coach Mike Norvell has continued to express confidence in his team's ability to be successful. Norvell has built a sustainable program that has a combined 23-4 record over the past two seasons.
On Sunday afternoon, the Seminoles released their projected depth chart for the game versus Georgia Tech.
I have a couple of takeaways from the projected depth chart such as former LSU transfer Jalen Brown being listed as the starter at wide receiver. Brown was a high school prospect that the Seminoles' coaching staff was excited about where he had blazing speed. However, he ended up signing with the LSU Tigers but he transferred to FSU after not recording any stats during his freshman year.
The next surprise is that linebacker transfer Shawn Murphy is not even listed on the depth chart for his position. I realize that some players take a while to get acclimated to a new environment but I fully expected him to at least be listed. It could be a project that the coaching staff is working on.
Lastly, I thought it was interesting to see Kevin Knowles II being the co-starter with transfer Earl Little Jr. at the nickel cornerback position. I have high expectations on what Little Jr. could be for this defense. However, Knowles II has seemed to turn a corner in practice recently.
It is worth mentioning that I would not put a ton of stock in the projected depth chart as it has been seen as not being very valuable. For example, wide receiver Deuce Spann is listed behind running back Jaylin Lucas as a kickoff returner. However, we could see Spann get his opportunities there.
