FSU football: It is time to respond to adversity in the home contest versus BC
The Florida State Seminoles have their backs against the wall after the season-opening loss to Georgia Tech in Dublin, Ireland by a score of 24-21. It was a shocking result that the fan base wants to move forward from.
I am certainly not in the business of bashing the coaching staff and/or players. It was an underwhelming performance by all parties given that the Seminoles were a 10.5-point favorite over the Yellow Jackets.
Florida State head football coach Mike Norvell placed the blame on himself this week during the media sessions. He felt as though he didn't put his players in position to be successful.
In comes the Boston College Eagles, who are led by quarterback Thomas Castellanos, who makes their way to Tallahassee for a prime-time spot in a sold-out Doak Campbell Stadium on Labor Day night at 7:30 PM EST on ESPN.
The Seminoles narrowly escaped defeat last year against the Eagles as they had a 31-10 lead late in the third quarter. Florida State only won the contest by a score of 31-29 and had Seminole fans' hearts beating out of their chests.
I realize that many individuals are nervous about Monday's contest and think that the Seminoles might not adjust to all of the new faces. However, the program has been through some ups and downs in recent years.
Florida State fans act sometimes like the sky is falling. However, it is wise to sometimes understand that the program lost to FCS opponent Jacksonville State at home on a game-winning play and it seems like the Seminoles could never be back in the national spotlight.
If we can make it through that, we can make it through anything. Norvell always emphasizes the point of responding to adversity when things don't go your way. He knows that this football team can be successful in 2024.
There are several things that you can point to that Florida State needs to correct. However, it all starts with being able to start with focusing on the next play and controlling what they can control. I believe that Norvell will have his team ready to perform.
