FSU football: How good was FSU's 2024 NFL Draft?
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU football got put back on the NFL map with the 2024 NFL Draft. The Noles only had one player taken in the 2022 and 2023 NFL Drafts and needed a strong 2024 Draft after winning the ACC with an undefeated 13-0 regular season. Despite the record and beating two SEC teams away from Doak Campbell Stadium, some pundits and media didn't realize how talented the 2023 FSU football team was. The NFL Draft was a reminder or informer for those who forgot or didn't know.
One of the things I wrote recently was opposing teams not having the ammunition they once had when it came to negatively recruiting FSU. I knew FSU media would waste no time letting folks know how much talent from the 2023 team went to the NFL. That's not bad for a team some media said wasn't good enough to make the College Football Playoff. They were among six teams with three top-40 selections and had six in the top 100, which tied for third-most nationally. FSU had 10 selections for the fourth time, which tells you FSU has a rich history in producing NFL players despite not being around half as long as most of the other teams. The 41 consecutive years with at least one player selected is another testament to that rich history.
It's a credit to the FSU staff's ability to evaluate and develop talent, as most of the players acquired were when FSU had an overall losing record after the 2020 and 2021 seasons. Some players were not highly sought after when they came to FSU, but their path through FSU is something the coaching staff can use in the future with high school and transfer portal players. I'm sure this is the first of many graphics will see promoting these former players. It was just what Mike Norvell and the staff needed for FSU football.
