Florida State lost to Georgia Tech in the season opener in Dublin, Ireland by a score of 24-21. The Seminole faithful was disappointed by the showing where Florida State was 10.5-point favorites heading into the contest.

According to the odd makers, Florida State football was projected to win the conference this preseason. However, with the loss, the Seminoles have an uphill battle to stay in the race. After Miami's dismantling of the arch-rival Florida Gators, they seem to be a trendy pick to win the conference.

Florida State left a ton to be desired on the field as the Seminoles struggled to match the physicality of Georgia Tech's offense where they were punched in mouth and did not seem like they had an answer for them.

What made it even more difficult was that the Seminoles did not force any defensive turnovers versus the Yellow Jackets. Defensive backs coach Patrick Surtain and defensive coordinator Adam Fuller always emphasize the importance of taking the ball away and giving the offense a great position to put points on the scoreboard.

Just like Georgia Tech quarterback Haynes King, Boston College signal-caller Thomas Castellanos tends to put the football in harm's way where he recorded 15 passing touchdowns and 14 interceptions in 2023.

King did not have many turnover-worthy plays throwing the football because the Seminoles were unable to stop the running game where they accumulated 190 rushing yards. Boston College ranked 13th in the FBS in rushing yards per game in 2023. As a result, Florida State should expect a ton of the same from this offense.

The Seminoles did see Georgia Tech cough the football up on a bad handoff exchange. Unfortunately, Florida State did their best 2019 Boise State game impression where no one on the Seminoles' roster wanted to pick up the football.

With defensive backs such as Azareye'h Thomas, Fentrell Cypress II, and Shyheim Brown (among others) that the coaching staff is very high on, I expect Castellanos to get caught in some third-down opportunities where it forces him to do too much within the offense.

The takeaways would give the Seminoles' offense more opportunities for success.
