FSU football: Can the Seminoles' rushing attack get to respectability?
Florida State's offense has been horrific this season. I realize that former quarterback Jordan Travis was a vital part of the team, but I still thought that the squad could effectively run the football since it had been doing a nice job of that since Mike Norvell arrived in Tallahassee.
We previously wrote that the Seminoles needed to find a way to succeed on the ground versus Clemson to have a chance in the game. With backup signal-caller Brock Glenn making his first collegiate start of the year, the running game could have made it easier for him to be successful.
However, that was not the case on Saturday, as Florida State recorded 23 carries for 22 yards. That was not a typo. I don't mean to sound blunt, but in year 5 of the Mike Norvell and Alex Atkins experiment, that product was put on the field.
I understand that transfers Roydell Williams and Jaylin Lucas are out with injuries, but Lawrance Toafili and Kameron Davis are talented. This offensive line is filled with players with multiple collegiate starts. This is disappointing on all levels.
It makes it worse that ten of those 22 yards come off of a 4th down and ten conversion, where quarterback Brock Glenn had to scramble for his life to keep the game alive. This makes me wonder if Glenn was able to keep some of those runs to keep the defense, would the rushing attack be this bad?
I don't think that the Seminoles will be able to do much this season in terms of rushing the football. Florida State is second-to-last in the FBS in rushing yards per game with 58 rushing yards per game. They are only behind Kent State who has 57.6 rushing yards.
That is not a good company to have... I hope that Florida State can use this bye week to get better in their rushing attack. However, I am not holding my breath.
