Former Alabama RB Roydell Williams comes to FSU with high expectations. He was second on Alabama's teams in rushing yards last season and hopes to step into FSU's lineup and contend for the starting role. When you look closer at his running style, he reminds you a lot of former Seminole and Oregon Transfer Trey Benson. Let's take a closer look at how these two guys compare:

Trey Benson

  • 4 Star Recuit, #21 RB in the 2020 Class
  • He tore his ACL in his freshman season at Oregon and compiled only 6 att, 22 yds, and 1 TD in two seasons. While he didn't leave a lasting impression for the Ducks, he did find new life for the Seminoles. Benson earned the starting nod in the 2022 season and shared the backfield with TreShaun Ward and Lawrance Toafili.
  • He surpassed 900 yards rushing in his two seasons at FSU (990yds,9TD in 2022, 906yds, 14TD in 2023)

Roydell Williams:

  • 4 Star Recuit, #10 RB in the 2020 Class
  • He was never the clear-cut starter sharing carries with the likes of Brian Robinson, Jahmyr Gibbs, and Jase McClellan on stacked Alabama teams. Williams made the most of his chances and averaged almost 5 yds a carry at Alabama.

Final Thoughts:

I believe both Williams and Benson have similar running styles that will allow Roydell to step right into Trey's shoes at FSU. Benson is more of a home run threat, but Williams likely has better vision similar to Treshaun Ward. That rushing attack should not miss a beat. His speed out in the flat catching passes will give new quarterback DJ Uiagalelei a very nice check down. Coach Norvell and staff know how to get the best out of a player and Williams will leave FSU as a legit back who could see his draft stock rise with the red hot Seminoles this season.
