Florida State football had their bye week this last week as the Seminoles now prepare to play the Memphis Tigers in the friendly confines of Doak Campbell Stadium on Saturday at noon Eastern time.

However, the bye week was not as peaceful as Seminole fans would have liked.

For starters, their upcoming opponent (Memphis) defeated the Troy Trojans by a score of 38-17 where running back Mario Anderson had 125 rushing yards and two touchdowns in the victory. Boston College also took care of business versus Duquesne.

Then California (who the Seminoles play the following Saturday) upset the Auburn Tigers on the road by a score of 21-14 where quarterback Fernando Mendoza had completed 25 of his 36 passes for 233 yards and two touchdowns in the win. Clemson dismantled Appalachian State by a score of 66-20 after getting humiliated by the Georgia Bulldogs in the season opener.

Luckily, SMU lost to BYU by a score of 18-15 where their quarterback (Kevin Jennings) struggled mightily where he completed 15 of his 32 passes for 140 yards and one interception. Duke defeated Northwestern by a score of 26-20 in overtime.

Arch-rival Miami defeated FCS opponent Florida A&M by a score of 56-9 where quarterback Cam Ward became a topic of conversation once again. The other arch-rival Florida finally got in the win column they defeated Samford by a score of 45-7.

Unfortunately, the Seminoles' resume looks a bit weaker as Georgia Tech lost to Syracuse where they allowed Orange quarterback Kyle McCord to throw for over 300 passing yards in a 31-28 loss. Then Notre Dame lost embarrassingly to Northern Illinois by a score of 16-14 in South Bend.

As head football coach Mike Norvell says all of the time, the squad has to control what it can control even if teams on their schedule get better. It all starts with this weekend in hopes of getting the Seminoles a victory against Memphis.
